Damhamer – Chapter Eight

“Sii are you okay?”
“What happened?”
“Are you injured?”
“No, just a little shook up.”
“Don’t get up. Just rest.”
“I’m okay… Ouch. Okay, maybe my shoulder is hurt. I was tossed into the side of the ship; that is the last thing I remember. So what hit us?”
“I am not sure. The sensors did not detect any ship other than Kapaw’s and the mystery ship.”
“Is the ship damaged?”
“Yes, there was an explosion in section B2, our sleeping quarters, but I have not been able to determine what kind of explosion occurred.”
“Can the damage be repaired?”
“Yes, but we must find somewhere to get the repairs. When the explosion occurred, I felt the rage had been summoned inside me. I went to see what damage had been done. I opened the bulkhead and was pulled outside the ship.”
“What? How is that possible? How are you still alive?”

“When I was outside the ship I felt some sort of force field around me. I could move freely and had complete control. I did not feel the bitter cold of space. However I did feel something was there, but I could not see anything. I looked all around the ship and found nothing. I was about to return to the ship when I believe I saw some kind of distortion, or it could have been my eyes deceiving me, but I felt something. I believe I saw something moving away from us, but I am not sure. Maybe I am being foolish.”
“No, my love, you’re not foolish at all. It sounds like the ship was cloaked.”

Damhamer – Chapter 7

It was now in the third time period. I have not slept much. I tossed and turned. After dinner Dam and I talked about the meeting tomorrow with Kapaw. I will be on the ship which will be on the landing platform also. I am to be ready to leave in a hurry if something goes wrong. I argued to no prevail that I would not leave him here but he made a good point: If something goes wrong, there might not be a here to leave. I believe Dam is special even if Kapaw is of his kind. I believe that nothing can hurt Dam. He seems to be resting comfortably. He is fearless and is not worried at all about tomorrow. I wish I could be that confident.

Damhamer – Chapter Six

When we left Orex I felt sad. I was not sure if I would ever see my friends again. I know that is a lie. I will see them again. I have to go back after my leave time is up. Or not. Following my destiny may be a bit more difficult. I am not afraid. I have what I’ve always wanted. I have someone who loves me and would destroy anything or anyone that tried to hurt me. There are just a lot of emotions bouncing around in my head. Truth be told I am a little afraid. I’m not sure if I should confide in Dam. I don’t want him to think I am having second thoughts when I’m not—well maybe a little, but I would not change a thing. I will follow him to the end of space and back. My wonderful mother always told me that being open and honest with your mate will lead to a happy life and disperse all the unhappy strife. I know she is right. I can tell him anything and he will love me anyway.

Damhamer – Chapter Five

Chapter 5

The celebration had begun. The Borog had been defeated. Orex was safe thanks to the brave soldiers who fought giving their best and some their lives even though they were only trainees. Major Rutherford and Vipa fought with such bravery. The people of Orex are indebted to them. I am happy that Damhamer remembers his name. Regardless of what he says it means, he is still a hero.

Word spread fast around this region. The people who left Orex would be returning soon and everything would be back to normal. Well, I could hope it would. With Damhamer’s new memories something just doesn’t seem to be normal. I am afraid he remembers something or someone from his past. Before I throw a pity party I need to be sure if he is attached—that would be the worst thing ever. I guess destroyer of worlds would probably be on the list somewhere. (more…)

Damhamer – Chapter Four

It has been three days since the attack. My leg is completely healed; I will return to work today. I haven’t seen Vipa since the attack. He has been with the city council and the military staff in the hope that he can offer some kind of strategic help. I talked with him via communicator briefly yesterday—he sounded distraught. He felt useless that he could not help more. My heart went out to him. I reassured him he had helped more than he knew. “Not only did you save our lives, we now know there will be an attack on Orex.” I know the only way we will survive is with his help. His strength and abilities will give us a fighting chance against the Borog. I believe Vipa is special; he will help protect Orex. I know my feelings for Vipa have grown since he saved my life. I am not worried about the Borog as much as Vipa being attached to someone; that would be the disaster, but I will cross that nebula when and if it happens.

Damhamer – Chapter Three

It is now lunar date 2515. All of Vipa’s wounds have healed but no memory has returned. He still has the tormara visions as he calls them. Dr. Lexetod prescribed a sedative, 100 mg of Medalin Roxee, before he goes to bed. It seems to help but has not stopped the dreams completely. Status unknown of his anatomy. Dr. Lexetod is concerned if we administer the wrong medication we could harm or even kill him. The patient has been coping as best he can. We will be going outside today; that should help him to feel better. I hope if and when Vipa regains his memory he will decide to stay, but for now I hope his memory will return. It has to be hard to wake up in a strange place not knowing where you are or who you are.

Damhamer – Chapter Two

Six days had passed and no signs that the strange visitor was going to wake up. Some of the city council members stop by to see if there was any progress with the Vipa. That is what they called him; it meant “unknown.” The doctor explained that the wounds he sustained, even the major ones, have completely healed, and he could not explain why. The council was concerned about what to do with him if he doesn’t wake. There was no long-term care facility here, but they would give it a little more time.

I took an interest in the stranger. I would spend more time with him than any other patient. I would talk to him like he was awake. One afternoon he moved a little and there was a faint murmur. It lasted about five seconds, then back to being a vegetable. The doctor wasn’t sure if it was a sign of recovery or just his brain coping with something. Only time will tell, as they say.

Damhamer – Chapter One

It was a business-as-usual day on Orex Orion, which was a trading planet located in the Noxas System about fifty light years from earth. The inhabitants were made up of every species imaginable. It was a large city with a few smaller towns around the city. The people—well, the community—was friendly enough. There was a military training base outside the city with about two hundred men—well, men and aliens. The planet belonged to the military. They only allowed the city to be built so the soldiers would have a place to go on their off days. There was a military police station. It had two officers, but for the most part there was not a lot of trouble, except for the Nevewon. They were miners from planet Enod. They mined for Raet 6, a material used in forming Telloc crystals for recharging propulsion cells in almost every ship out there. Needless to say it is a very expensive material.
